I am a 15 year old male devotee living in the mountainous state of Idaho. My mother, my younger siblings and I were introduced to ISKCON when I was six years old by her older brother. I am the eldest of four children, my younger sister Emily is 11, my second younger sister Laura is 9, and my little brother Hal is 5. I have been home-schooled since I was 4 years old, after I left Montessori School at 3. I went back to public school briefly at 2nd grade after begging my mother due to pressure from the other kids my age who I met in flag football, but quit after a week due to the horrible association and the very poor educational system. I took my first College English class at Boise State University when I was 12. Being in the association of adults and being responsible for setting aside my own study time really matured me, and would not have been possible had I not been home-schooled. As such I am an extremely active supporter of homeschooling, even more so after being knowledgeable of the corruption of the Public Schools. Our children are the next generation who will soon take over the world, we must give them the absolute best training, a child is most impressionable when he or she is young, especially the ages 5-8, if at this time they are kissing each other behind trees and flashing their body parts in the bushes, (and as a teenager who was in that environment during that time I assure you that THAT IS HAPPENING, and not in any way uncommon, it is one of the top reasons I became fed up with public schools) how do we expect them to raise their own children? Already parents are starting to care less and less about issues such as their children becoming teenage parents and having sex at 13, so how can we expect the generations after this to be? We MUST PUT THE EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN AT THE VERY TOP OF OUR PRIORITY LIST, JUST AS IMPORTANT AS CHANTING OUR ROUNDS AND DOING SERVICE. If we neglect the children in order to chant our rounds and do service then their spiritual life collapses, and in just one generation Krishna Consciousness will be lost. Srila Prabhupada stressed constantly on this. It does not mean we have to give up our service and rounds, rather, engage the children in it as well. Instead of buying them toy cars and barbies, buy them Krishna and Radha dolls and teach them how to do deity worship, chant your rounds with them, and above all, MAKE KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS FUN FOR THEM. If we are too strict on them about the small things and it is not fun, they will lose all attraction for it. Please stand with me and other home-schoolers and help us in training the next generation.
