I am not saying that at all, in any way, shape or form.

If someone's last thoughts are of Krishna, they will go back to Godhead. If their even call out the name of Krishna, at that last moment, they will also go back to Godhead.

It's just that without spending a life dedicated to the serious practice of Krishna consciousness, it will be very hard at the time of death for that to be your last thought, or the last word you speak. Srila Prabhupad has warned us that this is a very difficult thing to do, remember Krishna at the time of death, even for those who have spent an entire lifetime following the process carefully. The mind and senses go into total chaos at the time of death, so without that continued practice, it is very hard to remember Krishna. Not to say it can't be done, only that it is hard.

If you don't remember Krishna at the time of death, still, any devotional service you have done in this lifetime is not lost, and you will again take up where you left off in your next life. It is important though to realize, (as you can see with so many people on this path, in this lifetime) that there are a million ways to become distracted, and not actually do the things needed to make spiritual advancement. If you have taken initiation, the guru will even take birth again in the material world to rescue his disciple if the need arises. Of course we take it as our responsibility to do what is needed so that does not have to occur, but it does protect you from becoming lost birth after birth after birth.

The spiritual master "saves" the disciple in so many ways. It is a link, a bond, that is eternal. That link, it links you to Krishna. It is therefore very important to make that link.
It has to be taken on very seriously only, with full consideration of all the responsibilities involved, for both guru and disciple.

PAMHO, Radhe Radhe, Hare Krsna~ Sorry it took me so long to reply. Generally, I just let Krsna's creatures eat what they want in the garden; I do, however, try and plant things like trap crops that may be more attractive for them to eat. I also do companion planting, which is planting certain herbs or other plants to repel certain insects or attract parasitic insects or beneficial insects. Also, since we use absolutely no chemicals, we have to take care of the land by feeding the soil. We use spent mushroom compost, which is incredibly fertile. Generally speaking, insects, are more likely to attack unhealthy vegetable plants, and feeding the soil keeps the plants healthy.

I really don't mind if caterpillars eat some leaves, or slugs get a few tomatoes, however. We have lots of land and a very, very large garden, so I just plant extra for them to eat:-]

There is no similarity between Catholics going to heaven by being baptized, and taking initiation from a spiritual master.

However, if you are serious about spiritual life, and returning to Krishna, you will need to take initiation from a bona fide spiritual master.

As one makes progress toward the "returning to Krishna" this becomes obvious, and therefore one takes initiation.
