Chanting Extra Rounds

With Janmastami and other festival days approaching, you may be chanting extra rounds on these days. The importance of these extra rounds can be talked about in terms of quality.

It gave me the realisation that we should come to this stage of wanting to chant instead of having to chant. By the Lord's grace these extra rounds were focused and nectarian and I could feel the Lord reciprocating by my small effort.

This reciprocation from the Lord gives us faith in the process of chanting and it reminds us that the Lord sanctions everything in our spiritual lives...by prayer and a serious effort in our sadhana (chanting, reading, hearing etc.) we can feel this reciprocation and be very happy in our spiritual life.

My Janmastami

Hare Krsna Rasa Prabhu,

This Janmastami I chanted japa, and made 3 bhajans with the other devotees here. I played kartals and sang with them.
I liked singing the Hare Krsna mantra with my family.

Chanting Together

Thanks Advaita....nice to hear you are chanting with your family. This association of devotees is very important, Srila Prabhupada wanted our families to chant and engage in spiritual activities together.

Hearing Is The Main Thing

Dear Rasa Prabhu,

I would like to share a comment from my gurudev given in Janmastami lecture.

Devotee: Maharaja, when we chant, should we try to visualize Krsna's form?

Giriraj Swami: Well, the primary process is hearing. We shouldn't obstruct
our hearing because of efforts to visualize a picture of Krsna, but if our
senses and minds are engaged in Krsna--looking at the Deity of Krsna,
looking at pictures of Krsna, hearing the pastimes of Krsna, and so on--then
when we do hear the holy names, if we are fortunate enough we will naturally
see the image of Krsna, envision the pastimes of Krsna, remember the
pastimes of Krsna. So that is desired. It is desired that when we hear the
holy name we think of the form and qualities and pastimes, but it shouldn't
be a separate endeavor that distracts us from hearing.

Hearing

Thanks for this very nice quote Aruna devi...it's very true what your Guru Maharaja says about hearing, this is the main thing...if we are focused on the Holy names then through purification, we will naturally think of Krsna.

Japa- A Good Offering

Thanks Rasa Prabhu for reminding us of japa and that chanting extra rounds is really important on this day.
Japa must always be an offering to Krsna and the best day is today by giving Him more of our chanting, specially with attention and love.
