"Women less intelligent" gender equality in BG as it is/exact quote question

Hare Krishna,
Sorry not to be specific enough in my previous post, however in Chapter 1, text 40, of BG: as it is, the purport states that:
"women are generally not very intelligent, and therefore not trustworthy"
This is word for word what I was questioning. I'd like to hear people's views on this. Not trying to offend but to clarify, thanks in advance! YS, Samsara 78

Hare Krsna.I'm not the one

Hare Krsna.

I'm not the one to explain this issue, but thought perhaps I could offer what I have understood or been taught.

Concerning the phrase that you quote, Srila Prabhupada is referring to observations made by Canakya Pandita. As I understand this purport, it's about women following the proper practices and remaining chaste, avoiding adultery and children born outside of marriage.

When the role the woman performed was in the home, she wasn't necessarily educated in the same way the man was. So it could be true that she didn't have the same knowledge or intelligence as the man.

Here are some other quotes from Srila Prabhupada, concerning women, from his letters (found in the Srila Prabhupada Siksamrta):

So far as girls or boys lecturing in the morning, that doesn't make any difference. Either girl or boy devotees may deliver lecture if they choose to do. We have no such distinction of bodily designations, male or female.

Regarding your questions about the examinations to be given, the girls will also be able to take these. In Krishna Consciousness there is no distinction between girls and boys. The girls also may become preachers if they are able.

Now I see that in our Society the girls are more intelligent than the boys.

Women in our movement can also preach very nicely. Actually male and female bodies, these are just outward designations.

We are Vaisnavas. We are not concerned with male or female position in life. That is simply bodily concept of life.

irreligion

Chapter 1-40 in purport: Good population in human society is the basic principle for peace, prosperity and spiritual progress in life.

Speaks of corruption and pollution of the family by irreligion.

What's being said is pretty clear, for what it says.

What it says to me is: 'take lead from the Purusha and don't trust the Prakriti if she is not under the guidance of the divine Purusha' ! -- but that's just me :)

Srila Prabhupada on gender

go Srila Prabhupada!

im kind of new to Krishna Conciseness and at first i saw some 'sexist' quotes from Srila Prabhupada and was a bit scared because im against discrimination, especially discrimination against something superficial like our human bodies.

BUT i just couldn't believe that Srila Prabhupada would say something like this because he is such an AMAZING man and so many female (and everyone else!) devotees love him.

thank you for clearing my conscience on this, im not going to let my faulse ego drive me away from giving him all the respect he diserves anymore.

maybe someone at Krishna.com could try to address other quotes he has said or put other sites spreading quotes that are out-of-context into their place!

Gouranga!
