Trying Checking ingredients.

List of things in my tortilla:

calcium propionate

carboxy methyl

cellulose

monocalciumphosphate

potassium sorbate

fumaric acid

ground corn treated with lime

I have the above mentioned ingredients in the product I bought.

I tried using google search for figuring out if they are vegetarian or not. In most of the cases it says that it is synthetic and I could not get complete information whether they are vegetarian or not.

I think they are vegeterian with some preservatives though.

Just want to be sure. Can some one tell me whether any of the listed above is non-veg.

Thanks!!

calcium propionate: This is

calcium propionate: This is a salt which is used to stop mold growth. Slightly toxic with possible side effects.

Read about it here

carboxy methyl cellulose: This is a thickener. It also appears to be vegetarian. Used in 'food science' and industry.

Read about it here

monocalciumphosphate: A leavening agent which causes baked goods to rise. Seems to be vegetarian.

Read about it here

potassium sorbate: A preservative. Looks vegetarian.

Read about it here

fumaric acid: Seems to be to give things a sour or bitter taste. Seems vegetarian

ground corn treated with lime: Lime is not the fruit, it is the mineral. No way to know if it is vegetarian or not. Some lime is from the shells of oysters, some from rock minerals.

Apparently lime is used to remove the husks from corn. As a by-product of that also apparently aids in making the nutrients in the corn more accesable by your digestion

I don't think I would eat too much of this product. There are too many things in it that are not really food.
