the story of Lord Krishna and his revered Guru Sage Durvasa is quite illuminating.
Once Lord Krishna reached Vrindavan very late for his divine Rasa-leela with the gopis. On being questioned by the gopis he informed them that he had been away to pay his obeisance to Sage Durvasa where he got delayed. The gopis also wished to have darshan of Lord Krishna's Guru. With Krishna's consent they decided to go and offer their obeisance to Sage Durvasa who was resting in his hermitage on the other side of the river Yamuna.
The gopis took all sorts of eatables to offer to Shri Krishna's Guru. But that day the river Yamuna was flooded. The gopis were in a quandary. "How do we cross the flooded Yamuna?" They asked Krishna. The Lord advised them to request the river Yamuna in his name saying:" If our Kanhaiya is a Brahmachari, then O mother Yamuna, please make way for us to cross over". The gopis were perplexed as to how Krishna, the Lord and master of so many women and who also played the Raas with them could be a Brahmachari?" Yet as per Sri Krishna's advice they went to the river and said what Krishna had asked them to say. And lo and behold! River Yamuna did make way for the gopis. Pleasantly surprised the gopis crossed the river.
At Sage Durvasa's ashram the gopis paid their obeisance to the rishi and offered him the eatables that they had brought. In their mind they had thought that since Durvasa is an ascetic he would take only a handful of eatables and leave the remaining items for the gopis. But to their shock, Sage Durvasa ate up everything that they had taken. It looked like he had not eaten for a long time. He was greatly pleased and blessed the gopis. Now the gopis were again in a quandary. How do they go back to Vrindavan for the river Yamuna was still flooded? So this time they asked Sage Durvasa what they should do? Sage Durvasa told them to request river Yamuna in his name saying: "O mother Yamuna! If Sage Durvasa is ever fasting then please provide us with the way to cross over." This was one more shock for the gopis. Before their own eyes Sage Durvasa had eaten up all that they had offered him. And yet they were expected to request Yamuna to give way on the strength of his fasting? But, since it was the word of a rishi they did as they were told. And again to their surprise the flooded river Yamuna did make way for them.
The gopis were surprised no end.
The implication is that we should not fight with darkness. Nor should we fight against the objects of pleasure. If we do so we will be wasting our time and energy. The more we fight them the more they will be entrenched on our mind. The more we try to run away from them the more they will pursue and hold onto our consciousness.
Understand the true meaning of the word "Brahmacharya". Remember God and fill your mind with his consciousness. Don't fight Kaam or Desire. Instead remember "Ram". Don't push darkness. Kindle a lamp. The moment the lamp is lit, the darkness that was there for many ages will vanish instantaneously. As Sage Ashtavakra says: "Neither enjoy, nor run away from. Just wake up in God consciousness. One who wakes up, he alone is a Yogi.
Gopal Tapaniya
Hare Krshna
I like this story too. Its from Gopal Tapaniya Upanishad (of the 108 Upanishads).
URL
Hare Krshna
I finally found (one of the) correct URLs for this - the ones i had first come across :
http://www.sribabaji.org/mgm_data/files/Sri_Gopala-Tapani_Upanishad.pdf
with commentaries by Vishwanath Chakravarti and Baladev Vidyabhushan acharyas.
Some other version maybe better recommended.
The reason i did not find this earlier was because i was looking up
"Gopala Tapaniya" , (not Tapani) - that's what other Vedanta Libraries call it.

yes but we were not in touch dear...........
There is something i want to share...
I had discovered this Upanishad almost 8 months ago. (Srila Prabhupad refers to it ).
Yesterday, i was reading THIS VERY Upanishad again (its quite short) , as a part of other scriptures - after all these many months.
Today i found your post - same story, with a slightly different format and comments.
I take that as Krshna's gift, lesson and supplementary homework.
Thank You Tiya for being His instrument.
So i am going to read it again, more carefully.
Amazing Lord. People find that happening many times - something on their mind is spelled out somewhere right after - that's Krshna.
