Someone's gotta ask, right?! ;) Seriously, though, many of us were raised in other faiths. Something must have pointed us in this direction!
My inspiration stemmed from a seemingly shallow source ... I've always been a music lover, and as I hit middle age I became curious about some of the performers I've been a life long fan of. When I read Joshua Green's "Here Comes The Sun," a biography about the spiritual life of George Harrison, it really was an eye opener. I'd always favored "the quiet Beatle", and smiled on his eccentric ways. Reading about it in such a life like context, though, it seemed less eccentric and more sensible -- like something I could use in my life! So, I got to reading ... and reading ... and reading ... :D
WHEN THE SOUL SPEAKS
I cam to krishna consciousness threw seeing many devotees in nyc.they were kind and gave me all the knowledge they had.then i went to visit that evening the second ave temple.it history from there
How I got started
Hari Bol!I grew up Catholic, but never really seemed to at home there, I was into the new age "Eastern" thought and read many books, again nothing seemed to stick. I had seen Krishna Devotees once in NYC, I was drawn to them but did not follow suit at the time. Then I was in my library looking at CDs in the world music section and came across Krishna Das Live On Earth (for a limited time only), I checked it out and put it in my Cd player, the first chant was Radhe Shyam and I had a little longing, a stirring then when the third track came on, Three Rivers Hare Krishna (Maha Mantra) my heart exploded and opened up! This was home. I was done knocking on the doors, the door opened and as I read in a Krishna Das liner, I found I was knocking from the inside the whole time.
Hare Krishna!!!
I better get a copy of that CD too
: )
Here comes the sun
I have that book I better read it now
Here comes the sun
Yea... I picked that book up at the book store and read at random and saw some dialog with Srila Prabhupada. I was kinda floored. My introduction to Krishna began on a high school band trip to Washington D.C. Some devotees came up and handed my a book on Spiritual Yoga. I read it and remembered the Maha mantra. And that was the end of that. About 10 years later, i was tired of living the "musician lifestyle". You know, drinking, drugs, smoking. I began a search that took me from church to church finally landing at the Catholic church. My family is old school Italian and even had a priest in the family so it seemed natural. I spent a number of empty years there not getting my questions answered. I put faith away for awhile and went on with life. Like you Dachsowened, it was music that led me back to Krishna. A band called Shelter. It got me thinking about D.C. and reincarnation... and I went to my local temple and haven't looked back.
How Did You Discover Krishna Consciousness?
I was serving in the Royal Air Force and met a devotte in london he give me a copy of the Science of Self-Realization to which I give him a donation. After reading the book I visited the London Temple the rest is history.
