I'm not sure what category this would go under but what about Music? What music inspired you to want to practice Krsna-consciousness? For me, once I heard Govindam on the Radha Krishna Temple album I wanted to be a devotee.
Over time, I became deeply disappointed with worldly music, both classical as well as popular/"rock". I used to listen to that music a lot, and had many many cd's and tapes. At one point it struck me that if I am supposed to depend on this for my spiritual wellbeing, then I am really stuck. The prospect of having to drag along all those tapes and cd's everywhere I would go, trying to choose the best interpretation of this or that classical piece (and I was quite the snob!) - that was just awful. I figured I would have to be very very rich to be able to afford having any kind of a close relationship or dependence on this music. And of course this music was literally sucking the life out of me, all those emotional and philosophical ups and downs.
I've decided that that was no life for me, and that I needed something much much better, simpler, more affordable, more efficient. It was to a large extent disappointment with worldly music that set me on the path of spiritual seeking.
And there was George Harrison's My Sweet Lord playing in my head every now and then ...
I found I have to moderate between listening to Krsna-conscious music and other kinds of music. Same thing with what most people do with their behavior these days. Anyway if I get too close to Krsna after awhile everything seems to vanish spiritually and I have to pay attention to other things that may not be so outrightly spiritual. In other words I think Krsna wants me to hear Him in the music I like. It's a strange reality here, if it was'nt for the music things would be so boring. It's nice to know that my love for music leads to my Love for the Lord.
