PAMHO, AGTSP, Hare Krsna! My daughter and I made this for the Lord on His birthday, and it was very delicious! Easy too!
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups organic sugar (we use demerara cane sugar, which is a little brown and has a little molasses taste to it, but white sugar is okay)
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda (not powder)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 carob powder
2 cups milk or water (we use 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup milk)
1 cup vegetable oil (we use 1/2 cup walnut oil, which is really delicious for baking, and 1/2 cup fresh ghee)
2 tbls distilled white vinegar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 degrees C)
2. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients.
3. Add the wet ingredients and beat by hand until smooth.
4. Pour into a 9x13 inch nonstick pan. Bake for 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean.
OPTIONAL: You may omit the carob for a white cake, add 1 tsp extra vanilla or almond extract, and fold 1/2 cup chopped nuts or large flower or confetti sprinkles into batter after mixed for extra flavor or "flair" for the kids
We sometimes frost it with a simple buttercream frosting (about 3 cups powdered sugar, 2 cups room temperature butter, 2 tsp vanilla extract, whipped together), but it doesn't need any icing at all. It is also good with just a sprinkling of powdered sugar, or maybe some fresh whipped cream on top.
Offer to the Lord for His pleasure, and enjoy!
WOW...........
hare krishna
such a mouth watering cake,i will also try it.
Actually...
We made if for the Lord using cocoa powder instead of the carob powder, and it was very delicious. However, Snehal kindly chastised me about using cocoa and chocolate due to the caffeine. I did some research, and found that depending on the fermentation method of the cacao beans, cocoa powder contains anywhere from 1/10th to 1/2% of 1% caffeine. Not so much, but I guess any is too much!
Too bad chocolate and the products are so delicious!
There is a whole list of foods
There is a whole list of foods that contain Neurotransmitters which have a powerful affect on the mind and body. Potato, for example, contains a powerful mind altering neurochemical.
They are found in foods that are often considered "comfort foods" foods that make you feel different than you already do.
It's a very interesting subject.

list
Prabhu,
please can you tell us where is the list?
Thank you.
Sorry my friend
I was speaking metaphorically. It would be a list if you got them all together.
There is no list you have look into things yourself.
: )

Yes, actually...
I sort of know about many of those foods. Dark cocoa also has a chemical called theobromine, which isn't caffeine but related, and it also has a chemical called phenylethylamine that mimics the feeling of being in love. It also is a superfood, having lots of antioxidants and other cancer-fighting substances.
If I wake in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, I generally munch on a handful of almonds. They contain lots of tryptophan, which makes you sleepy.
Potatoes and other high-glycemic "comfort" foods cause alterations in the brain, which affects your mood and digestion. Some people are highly susceptible to high-glycemic foods so much so that they go into a "sugar" shock and have seizures.
Some natural chemicals in food can be deadly, such as oxalic acid found in spinach, rhubarb, chard and other foods in the Chenopodiaceae family.
The list goes on!
it's why people love potato, it makes you high.
actualy all food contains mind altering compounds. all food is medicine, that is the basis of Ayurveda I think.
Today I had a banana in soy milk with tumeric and cinnamon. I blended it all. It was yummy and it made me feel good : )
