Here, I am facing myself again, in the beginning days of this Holy month of Kartik...to remember that beautiful pastime of how the Supreme One who frees us from material bondage got bound by the rope of love of His pure devotee...
It is said that, there is actually only one word in the whole existance: LOVE! It is either a giving of love or a call for it! And all our daily activities center around it!
I look at the people in the world, they are fighting, quarreling or crying suffering so intensely from an upbringing of lack of love! I look at the new comers to devotional service, and see that they need special care because that's what will ultimately attract them to the spiritual path...having been disappointed with the worldly pursuits and turning to a spiritual alternative of expression of love! I look at myself, how I was desperately looking for it from the people around, getting it from the senior devotees, and then sharing it with those who come after. I look at the pure representatives who are tirelessly traveling and sharing the love of God all over the world to satisfy the hungry souls. And I look at the Supreme Lord who is the source of all the perfect and complete love, how He is constantly giving His love, teaching us how to love, and finally completely bound by the love of His pure devotees who have fully received it from Him.
But love is something we miss easily, misinterpret constantly and express with difficulty, simply due to the fact that we have been in the association of lust for too long. We have got the ideal definition of love in Krishna Consciousness, so we dive into it with no reluctancy, yet always have difficulty realizing and applying it. The mind understands love, and the heart cries for it. But the body often misinterprets love, and the language misexpresses it. So we end up finding even devotees struggling with it, or falling away from the devotional path having lost the connection. It is like a long-lost lover. After years of separation you've established some relationship with someone else, and have almost completely forgotten that person whom you used to be so close to. Then after a long search you finally get reunited, but long separation has given you a hard time getting comfortable again with each other. So finally you may even end up separating again having failed to find the connection...only those few with determination after repeated failure and efforts finally become perfectly united again. Then all the distance disappears, all the pain goes away, and you can't live without each other just like fish can not live without water.
That's how it is for us with Krishna. After such a long separation we can hardly recognize Him, and even less appreciation. So we first become close to those who know Him to see if we feel connected, and then slowly approach Him as the ultimate object of our devotion. There are still despondence and heart-breaking in the process. There are still disappointment and frustration and sacrifice along the way. There are the pains of being distanced from the world and people, and even the tears of being left alone, having left the world and still being a long way from the goal...untill one day, when all the false attachments are removed and full connection is established...the Lord enchants us with His complete beauty and we bind the Lord with the rope of pure love!

just amazing!
just amazing!
thank you for the lovely
thank you for the lovely post. especially the second paragraph. it says it ALL! and to realize it as Lord Krishna, is indeed the highest bliss. ultimately, everything is Krishna, and everything is love...no matter how seemingly twisted it appears. Krishna is love! LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!
Beautiful
Dear Gopi Gita Devi Dasi,
This is a very beautiful post you have written here, thank you so much. It's very pleasing to read this, and also very encouraging.
I really love the way you have so nicely used the example of our relationship with Krishna being like reuniting with a long-lost lover.
This is a good example and you've written it very well.
The idea that we have very nearly forgotten this person whom we used to love so much, because we are now involved with someone else is so accurate.
The way you have described the problem of again finding this person and yet, because of the passage of time, and our forgetting, and not being in contact, etc... and therefore the resulting difficulty is very meaningful.
This is all such a very good description of the soul forgetting it's long-lost relationship with Krishna, and the difficulty of remembering that relationship. Then, once remembered, trying to develop that relationship again.
(and of course I personally love the focus you've put on love :)
Love,
Navasi Devi Dasi
Thank You
Thank you so much, dear Mataji! It's a long and difficult process to revive that lost relationship with our dearest one, isn't it? :) But we strive towards the goal, and hopefully that will attract some mercy to achieve that goal!!
Yes, Gopi...
Yes, Gopi Gita,
It's difficult because, like you said, we have forgotten, or become: unconscious.
We can't remember what this Great Love was like. Just like in your example of a long lost love:
If we could remember what this relationship was like, how it really was when we were loving this lost person (Krishna) then we would not have such difficulty...
But, as you said, we don't even remember the person very well, what to speak of remembering what it was like to be with them, loving them.... (Krishna)
So, that is why we are considered to be "unconscious"... we are not conscious of reality. We are not conscious of what is really going on, we are not conscious of our REAL LOVE, our Real Relationship, the one that we really love more than anyone or anything else, again: Krishna.
So, that is why we are trying to again become "conscious", that is the meaning of becoming Krishna Conscious.... becoming aware, (or conscious) of our True Love, our True Loving Relationship with Krishna.
So, remembering is the start of awareness, or becoming again conscious, we start by remembering this love, this Person, remembering is what we can begin to do.
Love,
Navasi
Love finders!
Thanks Gopi for your very heartfelt peace. Welcome back!! I guess the Beatles were right after all, "Love is all we need!" with the addition of love of Krishna, and love of his devotees.
Prabhupada criticizes the material world for it's "society, friendship and [so called] love", yet we devotees also require these things, but focused on loving and serving Krishna. If that is in order then we have everything, materially and spiritually!
The soul as part of Krishna is composed of eternity, knowledge and bliss. But what is that bliss? It is the bliss of loving and serving Krishna. Love is expressed through service, so really although it is said that "love makes the world go around" it is really the sacrifice or service born of love that makes the world go around.
As the Gita says in the 3rd chapter, without sacrifice we can't be happy now, or in any future life. And by sacrifice we become happy and obtain all things that give us happiness in this world and beyond.
So we are coming back to the loving arms of Krishna after a long bout of insanity in so many species---and so many attachments to different dramas of the human condition.
When will know that obtaining Krishna's mercy and company is what we truly want in our heart of hearts?
Your friend in Krishna,
Karnamrita
Hare Krsna
The Beatles were right, I've realized this over and over again, if not for them I would not be chanting.
Also the esoteric tradition that I am also into has it's emphasis on Love which is the Law or the Absolute Truth which is non-different than Sri Krsna.
There are so many ways to receive Love of God but the best way to receive God is through the chanting of Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Still it's good to acknowledge all preliminary ways every now and then for the sake of research and it is also good for preaching.
I did not know that I would learn to see Sri Krsna by also reading Essene prayers and studying magick again, also I find it fun to listen to different types of music and see Krsna in the music that I listen to, it's an adventure of sorts.
I can't stand to endure any moment that I cannot chant Hare Krsna.
I've realized that most people have a long way to go to even want to do any loving service, they are too busy being intoxicated and trying to see Krsna in the wrong way.
After awhile people have to wear out their old habits.
How else can we have Love if we don't?
We can get an inkling of Love but really what we are experiencing is only a taste of what Love can be, I think the Beatles did the same with their music and even their lives. Still they preach to us all with their music. That is a phenomenon that we should not lose sight of.
Some songs that stand out that got me chanting are "Within You, Without You", "Love You To", "All You Need is Love", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Dear Prudence", "Tomorrow Never Knows" etc.
I've noticed that most modern music now is meaningless and mostly just about sense-gratification it's almost as if the norm is just to shy away from any sense of looking any deeper and to just drown one's sorrows in neurotic nonsense.
I've notice that this has created memes, which are word constructs in our states of mind. It's all over the media, obviously it is a form of brainwash. I don't think it is all bad but there needs to be more room for Krsna, I don't understand why most people want to drown Him out.
It's almost as if most people really do want to be in ignorance which is not bliss.
Actually I find it interesting to observe the behavior of Kali-yuga it gives me incentive to just chant even more.
Modern society seems too controlled these days, I've noticed that most people cannot function without their cars and cellphones, I'm glad that I have japa beads to carry in my hands.
There is no greater technology than that!
Haribol,
Bhakta Aaron
You are so true!!
Yes...so true! The goal is there, the process is there, and the source is also there. What we need is the strength to fight against the conditioning, and the determination to continue the fighting! Then future is bright! :)
