What's in this bhajan ? Watching "Nilachale Mahaprabhu"
makes one feel teary , silent or melancholy - that's understandable. But why is this bhajan doing the same to me ?
Is it the video ? Could it be the wonderful singers ?
Perhaps it is the familiar nostalgic tune ?
The lyrics do not have anything to make you feel gloomy, although they do touch your heart.
Then why does it make my heart cry for You ?
Why does it make me gloomy and sad ?
Why does my heart sob ?
Why does it give a scary feeling as if .........

Who says that the Lord does not come ?
Otherwise, like Meera, you would not call Him
Who says that the Lord does not eat ?
Otherwise like Shabri , you would not feed Him
Who says that Lord does not sleep ?
Had it not been the case, like Ma Yashoda, you wouldn't put Him to sleep
Who says that Lord does not dance ?
'Cause then like the Gopis , you wouldn't make Him dance
kaun kehte hain bhagwan khelte nahin gwalon ki tarah tum khilate nahin.
kaun kehte hain bhagwan mante nahin radha ki tarah tum manate nahin
kaun kehte hain bhagwan aate nahin bhakto ki tarah tum bulaate nahin
achyutam keshavam krishna damodaram ram narayanam jankivallabham

.... Your extensions to the bhajan are wonderful, Puja.
I love it.
The gwalas (cowherd boys) play with Him , Radha pacifies Him and devotees call Him.
You know, when i first heard this song , i interpreted it like this:
Why do we call Him, feed Him , put Him to sleep just because its nighttime for us ? (following the examples of Meera, Shabri, Yashoda, cowherd boys....)
Because the Supreme Lord of the Universe actually succumbs to our wishes. He eats what we cook. He gets entertained by our singing. No matter how it is.
Just shows the depth of compassion in Him. What an ocean of Mercy He is. That itself is so overwhelming.
I can understand the feelings you are trying to express, because I too felt felt same when I first heard this bhajan some two months back and even now every time I hear it, unknowing tears follow from my eyes.
There can you reasons why our eyes become watery after hearing it. One is we get estatic and other this bhajan makes us realize that we do not render service unto Lord as intensely as we must.
This bhajan reminds me that Krishna recioprocates to pure love and service. It makes me feel sad , that the quality of my servie is so poor and am so very insignificant and I have long way to go.
Thanks for your analysis. It does make us ecstatic, and we do have a long way to go with serving Him and His people.
By watching and listening our senses get so filled up with how merciful He is, how beautiful He is, how loving and sweet He is , how patient He is with us.
Nostalgia
Hare Krishna
