There might be other things that buddies can share, pictures, files, songs, links, favourite or active forums so when I am posting in a forum you can see that I have done that through our buddies connection and you can click and navigate to that page quickly to interact with me on that subject.

I think that it would be best to be a feature that you could see the birthdays (if they had entered that info) of only those on your friend list.
As it stand at this moment, there is no real benefit of a buddy list, no updates, no birthday announcements, or bulletin board.
Bulletin board is another idea, like they have on myspace. and moderators could have access to the master bulletin board to check to see if content is appropriate. HK ys

yesterday was my birthday and everyone on Myspace and Facebook knew, but no one on Krishna.com knew. :) makes for a nice feature

Birthdays, appearance days, festiv
I like this idea more. It is the appearance day of Pancharatna Dasa TODAY and facebook tells me that. Things like this introduce a sense of community
It could possibly remind us of birthdays, appearance days, festivals, Ekadasi, etc.
