Demigods and Incarnations

Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura states in Shri Chaitanya Shikshamrita 3.3, two editions (two different translations of the same paragraph):

"It is strictly prohibited to disregard other gods. These gods are of two kinds - special incarnation of God and some jivas vested with His power and authority. It is absolutely necessary not to disregard the Incarnates. There is no necessity of arguing in this respect. Innumerable jivas are worshipping those gods who have got the power and authority of ruling and protecting the world, out of God's mercy and have been regarded amongst the gods, as per their nature. The Vaishnavas should not disregard them out of malice. Worship them suitably and pray for boon of devotion to Sri Krishna. You should not disregard even a jiva. You should also honour the images which are worshipped in different countries since those replicas provide a means of upliftment to the respective devotees who worship them. If you disregard them, your vanity will increase, sense of humility will be reduced and heart will not be fit for the cultivation of devotion."

"The devotee should not disrespect the devatas. There are two types of devatas, incarnations of the Lord and jivas with special qualification. None of the Lord's servants should be disrespected. Those souls who, by the mercy of the Lord have attained positions to control and protect the world, are considered to be devata, and are to be worshipped by all. The vaisnava should not out of envy disrespect them. Giving them proper respect, the vaisnava may pray to them for the boon of devotion to Krsna. The vaisnava should not disrespect any living entity. Respect should be given to all the forms of the devatas which are being worshipped in various places, for by worshipping those forms, the people on a lower level of consciousness learn the preliminaries to devotional service. By disrespecting them, the devotee's pride will grow, and humility will decrease. In this way the heart will no longer be a suitable dwelling place for devotion."

That's good to know

I always feel a bit of something when I am near "houses of worship" so it"s good to know. Where are the two translators

"The vaisnava should not disrespect any living entity."people seem to think that it is ok to go around and diss the things that they don't like or agree with I think that is a bad habit to form.

That is a very powerful statement for me. Many

"If you disregard them, your vanity will increase, sense of humility will be reduced and heart will not be fit for the cultivation of devotion."

That's fantastic I really love that part. You are affected by allowing yourself to disrespect others and their representations of God, of Krishna. It causes vanity and reduces your humility. It affect your heart.

wow hey

Thanks to our acharyas

Hare Krishna, Dear Prabhuji,

Thank you for appreciating this. I got specially attracted to this as it is by Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura.

All glories to our Acharyas who revealed to us everything by their direct perception and realization. We have to simply become their parrots and transparently repeat their divine words.

Sincerely,
Mihir
