Busy man becomes devotee

This is a real story.

There was a merchant. He wanted to be a devotee. But he was sooo busy in his life- he could not find any time to engage in worship. He approached a sadhu and submitted his dilemma. Sadhu asked him about his daily activities and then suggested that when he goes to the river for a bath- chant on the way. The merchant started practising it.Then when he earnestly practiced it- he himself decided, why not only while going to river- I will chant when i return also. Then he thought after few days- I should chant when am bathing also. He started chanting while he went to work, all the breaks at work, while waiting for food. It was not very late until he was practically chanting all his waking hours. He was doing his business as an offering to Lord. But by being steady in his desire to be a devotee- He without his knowing came to the perfectional stage of always remembering Krsna and never forgetting Him.

Srila Prabhupada

Before becoming sannyasi, Srila Prabhupada (by his former name) was a very dedicated devotee and in constant pursuit of spiritual service, while he was doing regular business.

This can be done! - it works best if one is self employed though, there are more obstacles when working for someone else, especially if they are non-devotee.

Hare Krishna!

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada

Hare Krishna, Dear Maha Vishnu,

Thank you so much for posting this. Srila Prabhupada is one my heroes. I am very keen to read about His life from Prabhupada Lilamrita but unfortunately have not been able to do it so far.

Srila Prabhupada ki jai

Sincerely,
Mihir
