Road Kill Revelation

Sometimes it is said that “beauty is only ‘skin deep’”. One meaning of this expression is that we are attracted to the outward beauty of the body without understanding its' inner components and that it covers the soul or the true beauty within. When the inside of the body---“blood and guts”---becomes visible, the soul remembers that the person or creature is not their body.

A Fool for Love

Is it really so surprising
that anyone--even a senior--
would be a fool
for love and intimacy?

Becoming More

Working is a mixed blessing,
though it is true
that I needed to be
with others.

My Life's Creed

A gradual process through many forms
of giving to others and Krishna,
by intense mantra of japa and group singing,
associating with saints, endeavoring for pure love.

Nostalga for the place of birth

On my way to and from the Northern California Redwoods, I stopped in San Francisco which is basically my hometown where I spent 14 years of my life. In general I don’t feel particularly nostalgic for this town I grew up in though I do have a fascination for my past and how it has shaped me psychologically---as that has caused quite a bit of difficulty in my spiritual practice.

Spring has sprung

Living in the country has really made the seasons much more alive for me. Yet this year in particular I have become powerfully aware of the deep feeling of spring. For this whole month there has been a perceivable change in the earth that I felt---a kind of knowing from a feeling level.

Physical imperfections---a perfect arrangement

I always notice physical imperfections, and frankly I greatly dislike them. Perhaps due to retaining some standard of excellence from previous births, or my many years of seeing the most beautiful Deity forms and pictures of Radha-Krishna, Gaura-Nitai etc, the physical imperfects always are glaring like headlights (which used to be the chagrin of my young son when I would point out some very old, invalid person who I announced used to be beautiful and full of vitality).

Which Brahma are you?

The “Law of Contrast” is very important for all of us. Thinking of those greater than our self can help us to realize our true position, as tiny and insignificant. We all have a little bit of “Isha” or controlling power, yet in comparison to the many powerful people on this planet what is our position? Then there are the devas, and the Supreme Isvara, Lord Shri Krishna.

Kindred Spirit Tales (2): Seeing the soul within the conditioning.

"Each person is an eternal soul forgetful of their spiritual identity who has a unique life story and conditioned identity. In the course of providing them products (many of which are spiritually based), I get to have a glimpse of their life's history, by relating to them very personally and asking them questions."

Disappearance Day of Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saravati Thakur

Today (Thursday December 27th) is the disappearance day of our Prabhupada's guru, Shrila Bhaktisiddhata Saravati Thakur (also called "Prabhupada" by his followers). This is one of those important days to remember such great personalities, our glorious predecessors. He was the son of Thakur Bhaktivinode who was the pioneer of Krishna consciousness in the West.
